Minecraft is a 3-D block based game where players have the ability to modify their world. The game has two main gamemodes, creative and survival. In creative, players have access to all the blocks and can fly around to build or destroy. In survival, players have to gather resources in order to build and have to defent against hostile creatures. Minecraft was started in 2009 by Swedish developer Markus Persson (Notch). At the time, Notch was little known and had only worked on/ created a few games. The first public release was on May 17th, 2009 and soon the game started to gain traction and started to get updated more frequently. In recent years, Minecraft has become more than just a game. In 2016, they released and Education Edition aimed to teach kids team building, and subjects such as history and chemistry (as someone who's school used this however, I can tell you that it is NOT educational). They also particapate in the national Hour of Code, having tutorials on how to create basic character movement. Minecraft particapates in multiple charities, even creating their own, Block by Block, which which uses the game to visualize structures/ buildings that are then built in real life.
